The process of joining the
Fiddlers is set forth in our Constitution and By-Laws, and is pretty straight-forward.
First we ask that you join us in several concerts. You may continue to join
us in our concerts as long as you want to. The next step, whenever you feel
ready, is to audition for membership at a Business Meeting in Coventry RI by being prepared to perform from memory
your choice of any 3 of the following 8 Tunes from our standard repertoire:
Silver & Gold
Chinese Breakdown
Flop Eared Mule
Golden Slippers
Ragtime Annie
Irish Washerwoman
Number 6
Road to Boston
A piano or, if you prefer,
guitar will provide accompaniment for you.
Please don't let the fear of
auditioning discourage you from becoming a member. We want you to become a member
of the Fiddlers. We were all beginners at one time, and have various levels
of expertise in fiddling. One of the reasons the Old Fiddlers' Club exists
is to encourage and help people become fiddlers. The purpose of the
audition is NOT to make the club an exclusive group of expert fiddlers.
Rather the purpose is simply to give you enough of a hurdle to overcome
that you will feel some real accomplishment at becoming a member, and to
set a minimum standard of ability in the kind of ensemble music we play, so
that you will have a foundation form which to progress in contributing to
our playing as a group.
